The Art of Street Portraits
Presented by Josh Jordan

Saturday, October 12, 2019
8:30 PM – Noon

When it comes to impactful portraits, oftentimes it’s difficult to get the subjects that you most desire into the studio. There are logistical issues like scheduling and returning email and phone calls. The solution is to get out to where those subjects are and take the studio to them. Engage them on the spot and make the idea of having a portrait made be a winning opportunity for them…and for you.

However, there are multiple potential issues that arise when attempting to approach strangers and ask to make their portrait. How do you make the initial approach? How do you develop instant trust? How do I gauge who will and who won’t sit for me? Model releases? Gear? Settings? The list goes on and on.

This session will cover topics like:

  • How to stay safe
  • Finding subjects
  • What to offer in return

Let it Shine! Unlocking the Natural Beauty of Landscapes
Presented by
Cris Duncan

Saturday, October 12, 2019
1:30 PM – 5:30 PM

Let it Shine! Unlocking the Natural Beauty of Landscapes. Surrounding each of us every day is unspeakable beauty. From the tiny dewdrop framed by intricate silk webwork to the glorious West Texas sunset, our senses are constantly stimulated by beauty.

However, sometimes there is frustration as what our eye sees can’t seem to be captured by our camera. Using the tools given to us today—camera, lens selection, filters and post-processing—we will explore ways to allow the vision of our mind to be translated into a photograph. Take time for yourself and come and join Cris Duncan for a time of creative development where you can start “seeing” things in a whole new light.

Cris will cover “What you need to know” to take better, more impactful landscape images—The tools, camera techniques, lighting, creative compositions and post-processing. Get prepared to have your mind explode. Just like there are “rules” of portraiture and lighting, there are “rules” of landscape photography and the magic can really start happening when you start blending the three—this is that “BIG” secret that is revealed at the $$$$ wall portrait workshops.

Can you imagine how that will impact your work? Landscape photography is not just for vacations and free time. It is an opportunity to share the world and a part of yourself with the community and it is an exercise in creativity that is sure to leave you inspired, regardless of your photographic knowledge, discipline or profession.

“First Three Songs…No Flash!”
Cliff Ranson

Saturday, October 12, 2019
8:30 AM – 11:30 AM

For concert photographers, “First three songs, no flash” is the industry standard announcement immediately before leaving the media holding area. After securing your position in the pit, you wait for the lights to go down, the energy rises, and then, there are no second chances. You must capture everything you need for the venue during the first three songs, no excuses.

I will detail probably the most exciting fifteen minutes a photographer can experience from the pit directly in front of the concert stage. And also what it is like to deal with all the backstage personalities associated with the music industry. Having been the House Photographer for the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo Texas since 2003, I have photographed over 400 concerts and events. This program will teach attendees how to photograph in large or small venues, whether professional or amateur events.

Presented by Richard Sturdevant

Sunday, October 13, 2019
4:00PM – 5:30PM

Join Richard Sturdevant in a program that will inspire you to create what you love and make a living at it.

Creating an exceptional fine art composite consists of many things, but the two that separate good from great are conception and finish. Conception and the ability to dream up a visual idea or to tell visual story that is original and unique to your vision is priceless. Equally important is the ability to bring it all together is such away that it is beautiful and meaningful to the viewer. The finish of the art should keep the viewer engaged in the content and not the technique. Everything in between this journey is trained execution.

In this program I will share like never before on this process, known for my style, concepts and the way I finish up an image. I will share how to create concepts that reflect who you are and how to execute them and most of all finish them in such a beautiful way. I’m good at what I do and you will leave this program better for it.

Content will cover:
– Conception
– Resource gathering
– Light creation and lighting to fit the scene
– Using the right angle of view
– Extraction
– Composition
– Color theory and Harmony
– Illustration techniques that can be used on any image
– Plug-in techniques
– PS Painting techniques
– Proven finishing techniques and presentation
– Photoshop Painting Techniques
